Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any difficulties with booking!

I'm booked onto one of your courses. Do I need to bring or wear anything special?

your own apron is also useful

Remember to wear SCRUFFY CLOTHES, it’s a messy job to play with mud! It would be very useful to bring your own APRON to protect your clothes and of course in the current climate a mask to help protect from Covid.

If you are on a longer 11 week course it is strongly advised that you bring along a small sketch book that will help you when it comes to recording your learning, thinking, planning designs and glaze decoration. It also helps in discussions with the tutor of you have a place where you can keep notes and diagrams.

Are children welcome on your courses?

Our courses are aimed at Adults. We often get enquiries about courses for children but at this point in time we only include young people over 14 where they are accompanied and well supervised by an adult and by special arrangement.

Please contact me before hand if you are enroling a teanager.  We dont cater for children under 14 or under at this point in time. We but we might in the future if our insurance changes.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

For Weekends on the Wheel and BOOTCAMPS we invite you to share with us a light lunch  vegetarian soup, bread and cheese. Please be aware we are a pottery not a cafe or restaurants…we are not selling food it is an invitation to share..  it is simple fair… if you have specific diary requirements the food may not be suitable for your needs. you might want to bring your own packed lunch particularly if you have allergies.

Is there parking space available?

We are situated in a quiet residential area with on-street parking available along the road. Public transport is also a good alternative to driving as the train station (also the drop of point for many busses into Hebden) is only 4 mins walk.

What happens if I need to cancel my booking?

See Terms and Conditions for details

Are you available for group / bespoke bookings?

Depending on availability, it is sometimes possible to arrange group or individual sessions with tailored tuition.

It is not always possible to give an exact cost without knowing the details of your project and the materials that will be required.

Make a suggestion and see if we can accommodate you – although we may have to draw the line at mud wrestling!

I have a special occasion coming up - do you accept requests?

We can accommodate group bookings for special occasions by arrangement.

Popular occasions held at the Old Stables in the past have been:

  • Birthday groups or family days out.
  • Hen parties, where you can hand-create favours for the bride.
  • Work away days activity – break down the barriers – throwing a pot with wet slippy clay can be a very ‘leveling’ experience for all. Who knows what skills lay just underneath the quiet office junior.  Clay is so much better than an office party for breaking down the inhibitions
  • Work training days..we can potentially arrange to cover basic Health and Safety Risk assessment whilst having fun with the clay.

Pottery is the traditional symbol for the 9th wedding anniversary – come celebrate!

I require a BSL/English interpreter or Lipspeaker - can you accommodate this?

BSL/English interpreters and Lipspeakers can be booked upon request.

Are you able to cater for special access mobility requirements?

Please let us know about any specific access mobility requirements we need to be aware of.

Do you offer 'taster sessions'?

Due to popular demand, we now offer taster sessions!

Join our mailing list (below) in order to stay up-to-date about any other new opportunities at the Old Stables.

What kind of clay do you use?

We mainly use white stoneware and fire at cone 6.

Other kinds of clay are also available by arrangement if you require it for a particular project.

Can I take my pots home with me at the end of a Weekend on the Wheel course?

Firing of items can only happen when products are completely dry. This can take up to three weeks. Therefore, items made in weekend workshops or Taster Sessions will need to be collected.
